faithful little things

“the Lord has not chosen these.” so he asked jesse, “are these all the sons you have?”
“there is still the youngest,” jesse answered. “he is tending the sheep.”

God loves to take little people, faithful little people and use them for big things- to magnify His greatness. it doesn’t matter how big i am, only how big my faithfulness is. is my faithfulness big enough for God’s dreams and God’s plans for my life?

what really struck me about 1 samuel 16 today during small group is that david was not sitting at home, idly twiddling his thumbs or even wondering what to do with his life, he was living his life and being faithful with the little that was in his life at that moment- he was using the gifts God had given him to care for the people and the sheep that were in his life right then and there. he did not put his gifts and his passion on reserve for until God would call him to do big things, he faithfully served in little, “everyday” ways. 

on the contrary, i came back from winter break praying for God to use me in big ways in my life, eager to be used to change the world- yet, despite my earnest desire to surrender years of my life to God, i haven’t even been able to surrender my todays to God. am i so busy eagerly waiting to be used by God in big ways that God is unable to use me in the “little” today and tomorrow ways that He desires? i say that i want God to use my photography for His glory, to make a difference in the world.. then why is there so much dust gathering on my camera when God’s glory is all around, always- in big and little ways.

the big things i may one day do, that God might invite me into, they’ll be for God’s glory. and the little things i can do today, they will also be for God’s glory.

after all, little things are often the intricate pieces that together make up a breath taking whole, a big and beautiful thing- a mosaic of glory. :)
